While stick-on falsies may be a great option to open your peepers, they can be a chore to wear on a daily basis. Getting lash extensions every two weeks isn’t exactly feasible either—especially on a fresh graduate’s income.
To achieve #eyelashgoals without having to eat grass for the rest of the month, here are 5 mascaras you’ll definitely see eye to eye with.
BUY FROM: Qoo10, $7.20 or Lazada, $8.99
BEST FOR: Girls who have 99 problems but layering mascaras ain’t one.
PRO TIP: You can get it even cheaper in Bangkok (platinum mall & rot fai market).
If your mantra is “go big or go home” then Mistine’s Supermodel mascara is your perfect match.
Though we’re skeptical of its claims to lengthen lashes up to 400%, this 2-way kit is pure genius. The white fibres stick to the ends of each strand for added length and volume when the black mascara goes over it.
For fluttery Bambi-like lashes:
Step 1. Apply black mascara.
Step 2. Before the mascara dries, coat lashes with white fluffy white fibers.
Step 3. Layer with black mascara to hide the fibers.
Best of all? This product is smudge-proof and long-lasting.
BUY FROM: Watsons, $6.50 (Spotted at Takashimaya and Anchorpoint outlets. We tried calling Watsons for product availability but they said they don’t take such requests.)
BEST FOR: Girls who want thick lashes but are too lazy to layer mascaras.
With its large wand, Essence’s Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara gives instant drama. Thick mascaras like this usually flake, but we were surprised how long the Lash Princess survived without weighing the strands down.
It amps up the volume without crusting, and you don’t need multiple coats for a full effect. However, if you’re particular about clumping, don’t use a zig-zag motion to apply; keep the wand straight as you comb through your lashes.
BUY FROM: Any Miniso outlet, $5.90
BEST FOR: Both office work and ratchet nights.
This long-lasting 2-way mascara is all you need for different kinds of looks.
On one end, the micro wand allows you to easily coat your bottom lashes without smudging, and it removes clumping. On another end, the tapered wand gives volume and length.
BUY FROM: Althea: $4.50 or Qoo10: $5.41
BEST FOR: A natural look for vertically-challenged lashes. Or to trick someone into thinking you’re not wearing makeup.
Missha’s The Style 4D Mascara lengthens and lifts vertically-challenged lashes. The thin bristles and lightweight formula combs lashes without clumping—perfect for makeup beginners. A single coat gives a nice subtle effect.
Though the mascara isn’t waterproof, it’s relatively long-lasting and gives a neat and even finish.
BUY FROM: iHerb, $4.22 or Smoochiezz, $9.90
BEST FOR: A natural look and cruelty-free conscience.
For soft, natural-looking lashes, the flexible silicon brush defines lashes evenly. We love the matte packaging (because, girls) and it’s a steal at $4.22. Also, E.L.F is cruelty-free and vegan-friendly.
Sadly, when it comes to beauty, there’s no one-size-fits-all. Like magic wands in Hogwarts, the suitability of mascaras vary across individuals.
