You don’t have to own a pet to show your love for animals. We’ve compiled a list of animal shelters that require volunteers for various roles. Even if you are allergic to fur, there are some positions that don’t require you to touch the animals directly.
ACRES promotes a cruelty-free society through wildlife rescue operations, community outreaches and educational programmes, and they also actively tackle the illegal wildlife trade.
ACRES requires volunteers 14-years-old and above to maintain their sanctuary for rescued wildlife and outreach efforts.
Volunteers 21-years-old and above can man the rescue hotline for human-wildlife conflict issues. VIA (Value In Action) and service-learning programmes are also available.

Love Kuching Project is a community-based cat rescue group that rescues cats in need and finds loving homes for them.
Volunteers can book a play/clean session where you help clean the foster spaces and spend time keeping the cats company. There are also long-term volunteer positions such as day, night and Sunday-shift positions.

CWS promotes the well-being of stray cats and prevents them from being culled. Many core volunteers are professionals on sabbaticals who dedicate full time to this cause.
Volunteers are required to promote and practise responsible feeding, administer the sterilisation of cats and build relationships with communities where cats dwell.
The society also has management and administrative roles for volunteers who are willing to dedicate more time to help run the organisation smoothly.

One of the largest and longest serving animal welfare groups in Singapore, the ALL advocates for adoption over buying. They provide shelter to more than 500 animals so keeping the animals healthy and happy will not be possible without donations and volunteers.
Centre volunteers can help walk the dogs and keep the shelter clean. Transport volunteers can help the animals get to vets or foster homes when needed.
Design, writing and photography volunteers can help design merchandise and collaterals.

Mutts & Mittens Community is a commercial boarding facility, but they also run a shelter for more than 100 dogs and cats, many of whom are older and require care.
Volunteers are needed to walk and shower the dogs.

As Singapore’s oldest animal welfare organisation, the SPCA receives around 100 pets and stray animals every month. They are not government funded and require the generous donations of the public to continue operations.
Volunteers of at least 17-years-old and above are required to commit for at least 4 consecutive months on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
The SPCA enlists volunteers to take care of the hygiene and health of the dogs by cleaning their kennels, taking them on walks and bringing them to the vet.
Volunteers can also lend a hand in running their shop, adoption and educational programmes as well as in administrative work.

OSCAS is a charity and non-profit dog shelter that began in 2006. More than 110 mongrels currently live in the shelter and were rescued off the streets from being culled.
Animal welfare specialists are required to take care of the animals’ well-being by ensuring they get medical attention, arranging for transport and making sure food, medical supplies and necessities are stocked up.
Education and outreach specialists help to organise educational talks and events. They also help students and companies initiate community projects and promote responsible pet ownership on social media.

SOSD’s mission is “to eliminate cruelty and abandonment of animals, enhancing their welfare, and improve the lives of animals and humans, through rescue, education and advocacy.”
They advocate for strays to be accepted in society so that each dog can find a home to call its own.
SOSD has a comprehensive volunteer programme split into a number of teams. The teams perform roles such as keeping the premises clean, finding fosters for the dogs, creating content for their media platforms and conducting educational programmes to advocate for strays.

ASD was established in December 2000 as a non-profit organisation to improve the welfare of stray and abandoned dogs in Singapore. Comprising just 3 volunteers initially, the group has grown to about 20 core volunteers today.
Volunteers are required to run fundraising drives, maintain their website, create publicity materials, transport dogs, clean the facilities, and feed strays so they can be sterilised.

Hope Dog Rescue is a collective of animal lovers from all walks of life with the singular purpose of delivering hope and love to Singapore’s street dogs.
Volunteers are required to accompany dogs to vets, check potential adopters’ homes and cook for rescue dogs at vets or foster homes.
