Singapore might be a small country, but the goal of living up to our “green country” status is an increasing one. Thankfully, events like ION Orchard’s “Love Our World” help bring us closer to that. Including hands-on workshops by participating brands like MUJI, Bynd Artisan, and L’OCCITANE, the campaign aims to promote greener living in Singapore, and raise the awareness of sustainable living.
Happening from now to 31 July 2022, ION Orchard’s “Love Our World” lets you have fun through workshops, while making contributions to saving the environment.
It is not the first time ION Orchard has promoted sustainable shopping. Last October, they launched an eco-conscious Green Points programme where shoppers receive rewards by adopting greener shopping and dining practices at the mall.
This time around, you can continue to earn Green Points through the “Love Our World” campaign which is filled with activities like in-store workshops and exhibitions.
Get hands-on with Bynd Artisan’s Recycled Leather Key Charm Workshop where you will learn to design and craft your own leather key charms. Apart from coming up with something that is uniquely yours, you’ll also be giving a new lease of life to surplus leather, metal fittings and trinkets.
The Recycled Leather Key Charm Workshop takes place from 17 to 19 June 2022, and from 15 to 17 July 2022.
Skincare junkies love L’OCCITANE for many reasons like their dedication to using only natural ingredients, and their approach to sustainable living.
Through L’OCCITANE’s Big Little Things recycling programme, you get to reduce waste and return home with an Almond Shower Oil (35ml) when you recycle a cleaned and dried full-sized beauty empty from any beauty brand.
This is only limited to the first 20 new Big Little Things participants, from 1 to 3 July 2022, and 15 to 17 July 2022.
For the unacquainted, the jewellery pieces from Monica Vinader are made from 100% recycled gold and silver. Through their styling workshops, you’ll learn how to dress in sustainable yet fashionable pieces that bring out your individuality.
The styling workshops take place from 17 to 19 June 2022, and from 24 to 26 June 2022.
Minimalist lovers and MUJI fans won’t want to miss out on MUJI’s DIY upcycling coaster workshop. You get to recycle pre-loved clothes by learning how to cut them into threads before repurposing them into a coaster with simple weaving tools made from corrugated cardboard.
The DIY upcycling coaster workshop takes place from 29 to 31 July 2022.
Apart from the above-mentioned workshops, you can check out the full list of activities on ION Orchard’s official website. Participation in any of the listed activities will allow you to earn up to 6 Green Points.
Fun fact: recycling bins were first introduced to Singapore in 2001. However, even till now, more than 40% of items placed in the blue bins are not suitable for recycling.
To educate Singaporeans on the importance of recycling right, ION Orchard has educational panels that allow anyone to learn more about the eco-crisis, and the need for sustainable actions. Plus, the panels even teach how you can make a difference.
You also won’t miss out on the four recycling bins decorated by local personalities Xenia Tan, Tiffany Lovage, Bernadette Belle, and Zhang Jia En.
If you’re keen to make a difference to the environment, bring a minimum of three recyclable items of either paper, plastic, glass or fabric materials to the B4 ION Station, and receive an eco stamp that qualifies for five Green Points.
The Recycling Right exhibition is available till 12 June 2022, and is located at B4 ION Station.
Don’t just head home after you’re done with the workshops and exhibition – you can also celebrate Cancer Survivor Month at ION Orchard.
Working with the Breast Cancer Foundation, ION Orchard will be holding a photo exhibition ‒ “Ahead of Time” ‒ of 25 breast cancer survivors from 16 to 30 June 2022. The exhibits are printed on sustainable fine art paper made from 100% cotton rags, and framed with responsibly sourced recyclable frames.
