“Another pair!” — the all too familiar nagging of your mother’s disapproval over your numerous shoe purchases. But that’s not going to stop your love for new kicks though.
Hong Kong shoe brand Lane Eight has launched in Singapore, bringing with them aesthetic shoes that are made completely from more conscientious materials. This means that while you shop, you’ll also be saving the planet. The sneakers come in a range of different colours and offer support for all your gymming and fashion needs.
Now you’ll have a good excuse when explaining your latest haul to your mom.
The shoes from Lane Eight are made from materials that have all been recycled or are more sustainably sourced.
Every pair has a recycled knit upper made from used plastic bottles, which equates to 11 plastic bottles out of landfills, and re-employed for a greener use.
For the tongue and tip of the sneakers, the material constitutes a vegan suede. Vegan meaning that instead of the usual suede made from an animal by-product that’s guilty of adding to environmental issues, their version is obtained in a cleaner and kinder manner. The material is also more durable compared to traditional suede, so the kicks will last longer even with extensive use.
Algae might sound gross, but here, they come in useful. Working together with the brand Bloom, the midsoles of Lane Eight sneakers contain this particular aquatic plant, which has been harvested and turned into a powder. The algae powder is then blended with the usual cushioning material, so that less not-so-environmentally-friendly EVA is used.
As EVA is a petroleum-based product, blending the two initiates the reduction of CO2 emissions and returns 31.5 litres of water back to the environment with each pair manufactured. That’s over 31 bottles worth of water.
Whenever you wear the shoes, you’ll be walking around with proof that you’re helping our shared and beloved Mother Earth.
The shoes themselves come in a range of different colourways, with a sleek design you can pair with workout wear or even use to complement effortless athleisure wear.
The 4 main colours of the sneakers are black, white, grey and brown, as part of their core collection. If you’re especially particular about your clothes matching with outfits, even for a quick gym-sesh, these more neutral tones will be fitting options.
You can even get matching sneakers with your bosom buddy without having to worry about the colour not suiting either one of you.
If you’re a fan of unique street style instead, you can additionally pair their brown footwear with some cocoa-coloured clothing choices for an off-the-runway, model look.
For those who lean towards a softer colour palette, their collection also has these 2 pastel picks so after lifting weights, you can take a mirror selfie and still look cute despite being drenched in sweat.
For hip work-appropriate footwear, their army green and navy blue alternatives are options that’ll mesh well with any button-up office fit. When it’s time to punch out, just throw on your biker shorts and gather with your fitspo friends for a calm evening hike.
Additionally, if you fancy some eccentricity on your feet, their limited releases also include these bold neon pairs in orange and yellow – taking the phrase “walking on sunshine” quite literally.
All shoes from Lane Eight are priced at $170, with free shipping and free 30 days returns or exchange included.
As you transition from having an afternoon leg-day workout to a fancy dinner date, these comfy kicks will help you move about in style, while capturing true sustainability. Sign up on the Singapore site and you’ll even receive 10% off on your first order.
