UD has teamed up with Jean-Michel Basquiat; one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, to launch a limited edition makeup collection. His painting sold for USD$57.3m last year to a Japanese billionaire. UD’s muse, Ruby Rose, loves Basquiat so much she had his portrait tattooed on her arm and his iconic crown on her chest!
We girls are suckers for nice packaging and stepping into Sephora is a battle we fight on a spiritual level. Heart-shaped highlighter cases! Mermaid brush handles! Nevermind how we have 10 lip colours of different shades in pink, what we buy is happiness and that’s priceless.
The bold and pigmented eyeshadow colours are enough to bribe girls to say ‘I do’ but what truly tips me over is how this palette doubles as an art piece you can hang on your wall.
A self-taught artist, Basquiat began drawing at an early age on sheets of paper his father, an accountant, brought home from the office. By the time he was in his teens, his graffiti was a fixture around lower Manhattan. After leaving home at 17, Basquiat began selling hand-painted postcards and T-shirts. At 20, he landed his first public exhibition. A pioneer of the neo-expressionist movement, he quickly rose to fame on the ‘80s art scene in NYC, where he ran with the likes of Andy Warhol, David Bowie and Debbie Harry.
