Earlier this year, Singaporeans were treated to a penis-themed exhibition with cute and fluffy phallic sculptures. This time round, BLAXK by ActionCity has a new cheeky exhibition featuring figurines of nostalgic childhood characters named “I Am Wood” and “A Wood Awakening”.
And what do these characters have in common? They’re made of wood. Playing on the pun of morning wood, Wood Morning Singapore at Funan showcases collectible figurines with a rise in their pants. It’s an exhibition that will have you waking up with joy.
Located on the first floor of Funan, it’s impossible to miss the eye-catching designs of trees decorated outside the exhibition. There’s also a parental advisory sign on the door, along with a notice that says “cheeky art within this premise!”
We recommend not bringing any kids here so that you wouldn’t ruin their childhood too early.
The exterior also features a sculpture lying down in bed with crude imagery under the sheets that doesn’t leave much room for imagination. The words “rise and shine” appear above the sheets, serving as a cheeky prompt for what lies underneath.
Upon entering the exhibition, visitors can snap photos with the large-scale sculptures designed by French artist Juce Gace. Check out the A Wood Awakening sculpture at full mast (left), as well as Juce’s hit design I Am Wood (right) — a colourful figurine placed in a bathtub.
Exclusive art toys are also on display, filled with different characters in Juce’s mischievous design of them standing up with both arms raised.
Spot more unique digital prints decorated along the walls of the exhibition. Despite the adorable face of the artwork on the left, we can’t help but notice the strategically placed acorns on his lower body.
Exclusive tees will also be available, showcasing the cartoon characters alongside a naughty message that says “choose your joystick!”
Juce Gace has also collaborated with Singaporean artist Tanavit23! with a brand new figurine. Tanavit23!’s signature character JEM, a little boy rocking a tiger hat, is reimagined with Juce’s cheekiness and wood pattern.
Known as JEM (Awakening Edition), this limited edition figurine will have a worldwide release of only 100 pieces. Avid toy collectors will be able to view this exclusive piece at the Wood Morning Singapore exhibition.
While waiting for the upcoming POP Toy Show in Singapore, figurine collectors can first check out this special exhibition at Funan. Wood Morning Singapore is a free exhibition held from now until 22 October 2023, so make sure not to miss out on seeing your fave childhood characters in a shockingly crude light.
