Halal Makeup Review: We Tried Zahara’s Entire Collection Including Liquid Lipsticks & Nail Polish

Zahara Halal Makeup Line

Cruelty-free and alcohol-free, Zahara was founded by Amira Geneid, who was unsatisfied with the limited halal makeup options available in Singapore.

As a practicing Muslim, Amira realised regular nail polishes created a barrier, preventing water from passing through. This made wudhu—the ritual water cleansing act before prayer—invalid.

To solve this problem, Amira created Zahara’s water permeable halal nail polishes and expanded the line to include nail polishes, eyeshadows, matte lipsticks, mascara, and eyeliner.

Quattro Eyeshadow Palette (S$22)

Each of Zahara’s eyeshadow palette comes with four separate pods: base, highlighting, contouring and defining.

Left: Golden Goddess Eyeshadow Palette | Girl Next Door Lip Cream
Middle: Vintage Romance Eyeshadow Palette | Girl Next Door Lip Cream
Right: Smoke Eyeshadow Palette | Boss Lip Cream

With four easy-to-blend and bright colours, the Golden Goddess and Vintage Romance palettes are versatile for everyday wear.

For a night look, go for the Smoke or Fifth Avenue palette which has darker and bolder hues.

While we wished there would have been less fallout from the eyeshadows, we were pleased with the wide variety of colours available in the compact packaging.

All Day Matte Liquid Lipstick (S$24)

From Left To Right: Boss, Warrior, Girl Next Door, Mystery, Sweetie

This highly-pigmented liquid lipstick formula is creamy and quickly dries to a non-transferrable matte finish.

For best results, glide on some lip balm to ensure your lips are well moisturised before application.

Boss is a rich burgundy, suited for skin with cool tones. If your skin has warm undertones, try Warrior instead, a brighter coral swatch.

Our personal favourite is Girl Next Door. This nude shade with a darker rosy twist is the MLBB (My Lips But Better) lippie to add to your makeup routine.

Oxygen Nail Polish (S$18)

From left to right: Modesty Muse, Miss Maccha, Oxygen Top Coat, Arctic Queen, Lovender

The formula is touted to be healthier for your nails and kinder to your skin.

100% of all profits from the sale of Arctic Queen nail polish will also be donated to HELP ANNA, a UN women’s campaign to help battered women.

Zahara Halal Cosmetics

If you’re looking for quality makeup which checks the boxes of being free from harmful chemicals or animal by-products, the Zahara makeup and beauty line is definitely worth a try.
