Ah Girls Go Army (AGGA) might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there are some characters that stand out from the crowd. Playing the role of Lieutenant Roxanne in the movie, Apple Chan might be familiar to some as it is her fourth time acting in a Jack Neo movie. Her previous works include Ah Boys To Men 4, Wonderful! Liang Xi Mei and Killer Not Stupid.

Apple Chan was born in Hong Kong but she moved to Singapore when she was just 4 years old. Although having grown up in our nation, the actress is still capable of speaking Cantonese fluently. When she was studying in First Toa Payoh Secondary School, Apple Chan joined the National Police Cadet Corps as her CCA. She even received the Best Cadet Award, suggesting that her role in Ah Girls Go Army as Lieutenant Roxanne and shouting “wake up your bloody idea” in the movie was meant to be.
Apple Chan might have joined a CCA that is nowhere close to having the opportunity to doll up, but she was noticed for her popularity and beauty in secondary school too.
During her year of graduation, she was crowned the prom queen. This confirms that her good-looks were already acknowledged by her peers.
Surprise or not, it has been more than a decade since Apple Chan’s first appearance in Mediacorp. It was during a cameo for C.L.I.F in 2011, a police crime drama where she played the role of Shen Meiqi ‒ an innocent character who almost got killed.

Some might know soju as a type of Korean alcohol but for Apple Chan, it is the name of her adorable pet dog. Born in April 2020, Soju is a pomeranian breed and she will be turning 2 years old this year.

Having been judged as weak before, Apple Chan revealed that her knowledge in mixed martial arts (MMA) makes her feel strong and confident. She also sees it as an opportunity to stand out from other female actresses as not everyone is capable of such skills.
According to an article on Yahoo! Life, the actress mentioned that she first picked up the basics from her father who is a former competitive Thai-boxing fighter. Furthermore, Apple Chan even took up some MMA lessons for a Chinese online movie and went for a class on stunt work. Talk about a dedicated queen.
Apart from MMA, Apple Chan also does aerial yoga and hoops as another method to keep in shape. As the actress has been training for a long time, she is capable of doing a split mid-air and other poses that scream a high level of difficulty.
There was even one instance when she asked her followers if they were sick of her consistently posting photos of her doing aerial hoops. To answer that, it’s a no from me for sure.
Before Apple Chan decided to go into acting, she actually worked in the design industry for a year. This was not a surprising field for her as she majored in Design Communication at Lasalle College of the Arts. According to a video interview, the actress realised that designing was not her calling and wanted to try something else.
That was when she decided to head to Hong Kong and tried out for the Miss Hong Kong beauty pageant even though she didn’t make it to the finals. The experience later provided her with the opportunity to enter Hong Kong’s showbiz industry and eventually led her to where she is now.
