Thrifting in Singapore is huge right now, from weekend flea markets to dedicated thrift stores. In the secondhand shopping space, pay-for-what-you-can-carry sales have become increasingly popular, with bookstores and homeware shops offering this format when running clearance sales. From 9 November to 17 November, see that concept applied to secondhand clothing at the Bag It! With Cloop event, happening at the APSN Café For All along Jalan Ubi.
The concept is fairly simple. You come to the event, ready to thrift. You pay for a bag. From there, you get to shop for however much fits into that bag, without needing to pay prices per garments, or any top-ups. It’s not just women’s clothing available, you’ll get to shop for men’s clothing too!
There are three bag sizes to choose from. $10 is the cheapest and smallest bag, essentially a plastic bag of a mystery size. Then $35 gets you a Decathlon Bag, while $50 gets you a large IKEA bag. Payments can be made via PayNow, GooglePay, or cash.

You can share a bag with your friends, or buy multiple bags. The organisers remind shoppers that, while you can get clothes for affordable prices, it’s still important to shop mindfully.
FYI: After payment, you will have to give back the bag you were shopping in, so do bring your own to carry your haul home.
Cloop is a local organisation that aims to improve rates of textile recycling and combat fashion waste in Singapore. You may have seen their clothing recycling collection boxes around your local neighbourhood! Bag It! is one of the many pop-up events they have for secondhand shopping, so you can be sure this event won’t be the last of its kind you’ll see from Cloop.
