6 Best Moisturisers For Day And Night To Soothe & Repair In SG’s Heat – Zula Beauty Awards 2019

Best Moisturisers – Zula Beauty Awards 2019

These days, moisturisers don’t just hydrate and soften the skin. Modern formulas come in various textures and consistencies to suit different skin types, as well as varying active ingredients to address skin concerns.

For Zula’s first-ever Beauty Awards, we sought out lightweight day moisturisers and nourishing night moisturisers that work to repair and protect our skin from any epidermal damage caused by Singapore’s tropical weather conditions, while still being gentle on most skin types.

Presenting our judges’ picks of the 6 best day and night moisturisers launched over the past year.

Day Moisturisers

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Sensitive Fluide Protective Soothing Moisturiser ($38.90)

La Roche-Posay’s moisturiser is akin to a lightweight lotion, which makes it perfect for daytime use. Glycerin in the formula draws moisture to protect the skin barrier, while vitamin B3 works with La Roche-Posay’s Thermal Water to soothe redness and irritation.

Social media influencer Chevonne Cheng awarded the moisturiser a 5/5 as it is a “straightforward, reliable product to use in the long run with few ingredients. It doesn’t contain any silicone, fragrance, mineral oil and essential oil.”

Avène Hydrance Rich Hydrating Cream ($46.90)

A creamy moisturiser, Avène’s formula contains a patented ingredient that stabilises the skin’s moisture barrier. Along with the brand’s Thermal Spring Water and shea butter, the cream softens and nourishes dehydrated complexions.

Makeup artist Dollei Seah said it “soothes problem skin,” while makeup artist Cheryl Ow was impressed by how well it retained moisture. She said, “It kept my dry skin feeling soft and hydrated even when I was in air-conditioning all day.”

Clarins Hydra-Essentiel Cooling Gel ($82)

Clarins’ gel cream has a non-greasy texture that restores moisture and radiance to the skin. Its key ingredient, organic leaf of life extract, activates hydration by boosting the skin’s hyaluronic acid production. This helps oilier complexions stay hydrated and shine-free all day.

Zula’s Video Producer Cheryl Chiew said, “It doesn’t leave a sticky layer on the skin and I like how it gave my skin a demi-matte finish, so you still have that glow. Works for oily, sensitive or combination skin in Singapore’s humid weather!”

Night Moisturisers

Hada Labo Premium Hydrating Night Cream ($35.90)

Hada Labo’s velvety cream fuses 8 botanical oils with 5 types of hyaluronic acid to effectively penetrate the skin’s layers for maximum hydration. The antioxidant-rich formula is free of fragrance, colourants, mineral oil and alcohol, so it’s safe for sensitive skin.

Chevonne noticed “a fast visible difference in how smooth and hydrated [her] skin was, without making [her] face oily the next day.” If the moisturiser feels heavy, Christian suggested using the night cream “in small amounts to avoid residue on the skin.”

Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Overnight Treatment ($84.90)

Eucerin’s night cream contains two different types of hyaluronic acid to target and treat fine lines and dry skin. Glycine-saponin increases the skin’s hyaluronic acid production, while dexpanthenol encourages the regeneration process overnight.

Christian enjoyed the “nice, heavier formula for plumping the skin and addressing fine lines,” while Cheryl Ow felt it was “very hydrating,” and noticed that her “skin looked plumper the next day.”

Clarins Extra-Firming Night Cream ($142)

Designed to firm the skin, Clarins’ night cream softens the appearance of wrinkles while you sleep. The brand has sourced a new extract of organic mitracarpus that helps stimulate the production of collagen and improve skin elasticity.

Cheryl Ow said, “The formula is great for dry skin as it is on the richer side. It softened the fine lines on my forehead.” Chevonne thought the cream was “pretty good with firming the skin.”
