Growing up watching Disney movies, many of us likely dreamt of falling in love with knights in shining armours, but they’re far and few between IRL. To break our hearts even further, one of Asia’s “most eligible bachelors”, Brunei’s real life Prince Charming, dreamy Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah is finally tying the knot in January next year.
The 32-year-old son of Brunei’s ruler, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, is marrying the granddaughter of his father’s special advisor, Pehin Dato Hj Isa.

According to the Borneo Bulletin, the Royal Wedding festivities will last over a span of 10 days starting with the Royal Proposal on 7 January 2024. This is followed by a bevy of wedding events over the next three days until the official solemnisation ceremony takes place on 11 January.
There will be a Royal Wedding Reception at Brunei’s Istana Nurul Iman on 14 January, after which the royal couple will make their first appearance in public together in a procession through Bandar Seri Begawan. There will also be another celebratory banquet on 15 January, and a final ceremony commemorating the entire wedding on 16 January. And I thought a 1-day hotel ceremony was tiring enough.
With over 2.4 million followers on Instagram, Prince Mateen is very comfortable in the spotlight, and he regularly updates his account with very calculated thirst traps. The Greek god definitely knows what he’s doing to the rest of us mere mortals by posting his best angles, and we simply can’t get enough.
Putting other royal offspring to shame, Prince Mateen has never rested on his billionaire laurels and good looks alone. He’s a trained and certified helicopter pilot and major in the Royal Brunei Air Force, as well as a bronze medal winning polo player who represented his country at the SEA Games in 2017 and 2019.
The prince is no stranger to meeting with other important world leaders, being a close, almost right-hand man to his father, the king. Proving his reliability as a leader, he frequently carries out his own official duties and engagements with fellow world leaders.
Just last month, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong hosted a special luncheon for him, perhaps to personally congratulate him on his upcoming nuptials.

We’re all used to scandalous stories being leaked to the media about famous royals across the globe being caught in compromising situations, but Prince Mateen knows how to keep his personal relationships classy and completely private.
Case in point: he’s been seen with his beautiful fiance only at close family events like weddings in the last couple of years, but never making any kind of statement about his relationship status.
The biggest indication that he was “officially taken” was posting pics of himself with his fiancé Anisha at his sister’s wedding in 2022, and at another sister’s wedding in January this year.

Not only has Prince Mateen won the genetic lottery, he is literally the whole package with impressive academic qualifications too. He entered the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, UK, being one of the youngest entries at 18 years old. He then graduated from Sandhurst Academy in 2014 as a Second Lieutenant, and also received his Master’s Degree in Arts from SOAS University of London in 2016.
One of his many hobbies is playing guitar and the drums. I mean, if this doesn’t scream Disney prince then I don’t know what does. Joe Jonas who?
On top of being an animal lover, Prince Mateen favours exotic wildlife, owning tigers, leopards, horses, and cats, of course. His IG feed has numerous pics of him cuddling his four-pawed companions.
When he’s not busy looking after his royal duties, Prince Mateen shares many different sporty activities that he enjoys on his socials such as horseback riding, playing polo, football, mixed martial arts, boxing, golfing, skiing, diving, rowing, badminton and bungee jumping. He’s also cited David Beckham as his personal idol.
My biggest question at this point down the list is: was he made in a lab? It seems like there’s just nothing that this man can’t do.
Another sexy trait that would set hearts fluttering too is his abilities to whip up a meal. Although grilling can’t exactly be considered “cooking” per say, that’s already miles ahead than many non-royal males in today’s society who can’t even boil water or use a microwave.
According to previous interviews, the prince calls himself “simple guy” behind the glitz, glamour and high achievements, crediting his close inner circle of friends who keep him grounded. He also speaks fondly of growing up in a big family whom he is very close to, and he treasures being able to enjoy life with them in private.
It’s impossible to not give this prince his flowers because his own dedication to personal excellence is undeniable and he has the receipts to prove it.
We wish Prince Mateen and his beautiful bride-to-be, Anisha, a hearty congratulations through our collective tears, and we hope nothing but the best for the couple and their future genetically-blessed generations.
