Chin-Chin Penis-Themed Exhibition In Singapore
Last year, we were introduced to Brand Love, a BDSM-themed art exhibition at Raffles Hotel. Since then, many Singaporeans were curious as to when we’d have another spicy exhibition again — especially with such a conservative society here.
As immature as we’ve been growing up, we’ve also been accustomed to giggling at phallic figures or cracking a penis joke or two. To add some fun to the never-ending penis jokes, Chin-Chin is an ongoing free penis-themed exhibition in Singapore with colourful and fluffy sculptures to snap selfies with until 2 May 2023.
The exhibition
Fun fact: Chin-Chin is a childish way of saying “penis” in Japanese. It’s probably the equivalent of the Singaporean slang “kuku-bird”.
Upon entering the exhibition, channel your big dick energy — literally — with the giant penis sculptures that greet you. These sculptures come in a variety of vibrant colours, patterns and textures, and you can even lay down and cuddle with the fluffy “balls” at the base.
Since this is an interactive exhibition, don’t be afraid to try out the items there, such as these unique penis hats. Grab a bestie to take a funny selfie together — all dickhead jokes are welcomed.
Created to represent the power of men in society, the hats are inspired by the archangel Michael and Lucifer Morning Star.
There’s no such thing as too many penis figures in this exhibition. Hanging from the ceiling, a variety of penis pouches in different designs float among the clouds. It almost seems as if it’s raining penises, instead of cats and dogs.
Throughout the exhibition, you can find more penis-shaped artworks protruding on the walls, on canvas designs and even as cosy stuffed toys you can hold and strike a pose with.
Collectibles
Have a go at the gachapon machine to get a penis pin collectible to attach to your shirt or tote bag. There are three designs available, each with different meanings: clouds represent freedom, hearts represent love, and the rainbow represents happiness.
Each of these pins are based on the artist’s actual work, which can be found around the exhibition.
You can also purchase merchandise and prints based from $18 while you’re there. Apart from penis motifs, the artist Yui Ozaki’s other work includes poop ice cream designs, Egyption symbols and unique hand gestures.
Chin-Chin Is A Penis-Themed Exhibition That Uses Genitals As Symbols Of Gender Stereotypes
While the exhibition may seem cute and funny at first glance, Yui Ozaki also hopes to explore gender issues, queer culture and the 377A repeal in Singapore through humour. Aiming to take Singapore “by the balls”, the Chin-Chin penis-themed exhibition is open from now until 2 May 2023.
