Kipling has teamed up with the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) on a collaborative campaign called “Give Bags, Gift Love”. While shopping for your loved ones this festive season, do good at the same time by donating your pre-loved bags to support women and children who are survivors of family violence.
Here are the details:
Date: 1 December to 31 December 2020
Venue: Kipling stores at Bugis Junction, ION Orchard, JEM, Jewel Changi Airport and VivoCity
The bags can be from any brand. However, they should still be in mint condition. While Kipling Singapore has not shared a full list of T&Cs, it elaborated in a comment on its Instagram post that the items should not be damaged or have any missing parts.
In other words, if you have any bags that are lying untouched in your closet because you rarely went out this year, this is your chance to give them a new lease of life.
Aside from helping out the less fortunate, you will also receive a $50 Kipling voucher. The next time you shop at Kipling, you can use this $50 voucher with a minimum spend of $139. There is no limit to the amount of bags you can donate, but each individual will only be able to get a maximum of one $50 Kipling voucher.
This is not the first time that Kipling and SCWO have joined hands to help less fortunate women and children. The 2 companies first teamed up in 2018 to encourage shoppers to make a difference by donating, and again in 2019.
ICYMI, SCWO is an umbrella organisation for women’s groups in Singapore, with over 50 such groups in its stable. Its services and initiatives seek to help women in Singapore by providing them with various forms of support and even shelter.
Star Shelter, for example, was set up to offer temporary refuge to women and children who are survivors of family violence. And if you’re familiar with thrift shops in Singapore, you will also have heard of New2U Thrift Shop. Items start from as low as $1, and proceeds go towards Star Shelter.
SCWO has also just launched its A.C.T. Against Violence website. The platform addresses all forms of violence against women, from sexual harassment to violence against domestic and sex workers. Through survivor stories, as well as by providing helplines and resources, it hopes to raise awareness and empower those who might need help protecting themselves against violence.
The year is coming to an end, which means there’s no better time to be more mindful when shopping and to start decluttering. Set aside the bags that are in good condition and no longer spark joy, then bring them down to any of the Kipling stores above. They will soon find a new home with someone who may need them more than you do.
