Gone are the days when date nights required squeezing into a fancy outfit and making small talk in a crowded restaurant. These days, couples would rather go on mundane dates to places like the grocery store. Below, we’ve summarised the findings from a survey done by Bumble about this new dating trend.
Life might get hard, but dating doesn’t have to be.
In Bumble’s survey, 72% of participants admit that their favourite date activity involves putting on pyjamas and going grocery shopping. Unsurprisingly, cooking comes as a close second at 61% because staying in to whip up meals for cheap can be good for the soul and the wallets.
Other mundane date activities that are favoured by local lovebirds include dog walking (44%), furniture shopping (37%), organising a space (35%), and gardening (30%).
When asked the reason why they’d prefer a more wholesome date night, participants said swapping out crowded bars for quality quiet time actually helps ramp up the romance by allowing them to get to know each other on a more personal level.
The survey also reveals that Gen Zs are bigger fans of mundane dates than Millennials. Unlike Millennials, Gen Z singles find it easier to fit dating in their busy schedules by doing these daily tasks with their other halves.
If you and your boo have already been going on mundane dates, then good for you. You’re on the right track to find genuine connection with one another by turning off the extravagance and focusing on creating a space for just the two of you.
For those who haven’t tried going grocery shopping or walking the dog together, now might be a good time to do so. Who knows, you might find Mr. Right by going on fun and simple dates.
