Where words fail, actions speak ━ writing a heartfelt letter or serenading with a sweet song are great ways to show appreciation towards bae. But how about standing out from the crowd with a handmade gift?
Lemon8 user, @y1jingg, went above and beyond by folding not one but 1000 paper cranes for her boyfriend’s birthday present. Not only did she spend a long time on it, there was an extra special meaning behind this unique gift ━ it will have you screaming, crying and throwing up at how sweet it is.
Yi Jing learnt through her history subject in secondary school about the 1000 paper crane myth. FYI, legend has it that folding 1000 paper cranes will grant the person’s wish. This inspired Yi Jing, and she felt deeply connected to this beautiful myth till this day.
For her boyfriend’s 21st birthday, she wanted to do something special other than treating him to a boujee buffet at Ritz Carlton. Even though she had COVID when she first started out preparing the present, Yi Jing continuously folded paper cranes until she completed 1000 of them. We stan dedication.
She even went out of her way to use 100 of the paper cranes to create a very colourful bouquet instead of using conventional flowers.
Yi Jing hoped that by folding 1000 paper cranes, her wish that her boyfriend can pursue his financial dreams would come true ━ BRB, sleeping on the highway tonight.
Being gifted 1000 paper cranes is something straight out of an indie-romance movie and we need more of this energy IRL. Perhaps the next time you’re planning something special for someone, folding 1000 paper cranes will do the trick.
