Apart from a matchmaking vending machine, Japan has tons of other unique concepts. One of them is their love hotels, which are mainly located in Tokyo and Osaka.
If you haven’t heard about them, you are in for a surprise. For curious folks, these hotels are usually booked for some cheeky time with bae. However, have you ever wondered what it was like to stay there?
Lemon8 user, Sharlyn aka @sharsharsmiles, shared her experience with staying in Japan’s love hotels and gave some tips for booking a stay in one of these unique hotels.
While staying in a love hotel isn’t unheard of, it does make for an interesting experience. Sharlyn decided to stay in a love hotel in Kabukicho and ICYMI, it is ranked as Japan’s #1 most sketchiest neighbourhood.
Her Lemon8 post included a quote that said, “it’s not surprising to see riot police walking casually down the street” ― yikes.
On the bright side, the young traveler commented that these hotels have a lot of wacky themes. There are CEO or Jurassic Park-themed rooms and better yet, a room which has a waterslide.
The tricky part of booking a room at a love hotel is that they are not available on typical travel websites. Sharlyn said that it’s meant to limit human interaction so you and your bae can have some private time.
BTW, the love hotels have a system to make sure that you don’t leave the room by locking you in until the end of your stay. It’s only after you pay for your stay that you are allowed to leave.
Sharlyn advised that you can also request to leave the room for a short period of time but with the language barrier, it might be hard to communicate with the staff.
If you are feeling adventurous on your next trip to Japan, you can consider a love hotel for a short stay. After all, you’ll likely have a lot of fun whether you’re staying alone or with your other half.
