Arguably the best part about Chinese New Year approaching is having the valid excuse of shopping for a new outfit. After all, “new year, new you” extends to your OOTDs. If you’ve been uninspired for your wardrobe overhaul, New Balance’s Chinese New Year 2022 collection has 3 new sneaker silhouettes complete with tiger prints to get you into the festive spirit.
Inspired by a traditional poetry line “in me, the tiger sniffs the rose”, the collection also combines earthy, pastel colours of brown and olive that represent resolutions together with shades of blue, pink and green that signify tranquillity. Take a closer look at the latest drop.
The first model in the New Balance CNY collection is the unisex New Balance 327, a classic and beloved silhouette among sneakerheads old and young. The CNY edition takes on a more “prosperous” colourway, with hints of red among the main body colour of pastel brown, which could pass off as a light, non-shimmery gold from different angles.
At the top of the shoe tongue, you’ll find the New Balance logo against a subtle green and black tiger print pattern, which adds a burst of character to the otherwise mostly-muted design.
The New Balance 327 retails at $159.
For those who prefer to draw attention to their feet with brighter and bolder colours, then the New Balance 57/40 is right up your alley. Featuring complementary colours of green and pink, the unisex sneakers add a dash of vibrancy to your looks when you head out and about for your annual house visits during CNY.
In contrast to the navy blue and white body, you’ll spot New Balance’s signature “N” logo in green on the outer uppers of both shoes, and in pink on the inner uppers. The green and black tiger print shoe tongue make their appearance again, but this time with New Balance’s logo in pink.
The New Balance 57/40 retails at $169.
With the Year of the Tiger all about embracing your inner “fierce”, go full-on experimental with the New Balance XC-72.
