September has ended so hopefully someone woke you up for October. This month, get your body ready for a slew of Oktoberfest and Halloween parties, alongside the usual film, theatre, and fitness events.

1. ACM After Dark 2018: The Elements
This Halloween, the Asian Civilisations Museum is open till late so visitors can listen to paranormal tales in the galleries, strike poses at the dress-up booths, and catch a movie screening. Come dressed in your ghostly best to win one of the three mystery prizes

2. Halloween Horror Nights 8
With five haunted houses (one themed around season 1 of Stranger Things, and the others centred around Asian horror), two scare zones, three live shows, and a bigger live-action zombie laser tag zone, set yourself up for a scary good time at USS.

3. Singapore by Nguan
Part of the Singapore International Photography Festival is local photographer Nguan’s 10-year series, Singapore. Through his lens, he examines longing, confusion, and regret by presenting our island as an “iconic dream landscape” in dreamy, pastel hues.

4. ArchiFest 2018
The annual festival celebrating architecture and the built environment tackles three themes this year: designing with users (particularly the elderly) in mind, conservation and reinvention of old spaces, and how infrastructural adaptations can help weather future disasters.

5. Between Love and Death: Diary of Nobuyoshi Araki
Japanese photographer and contemporary artist Nobuyoshi Araki traces love, death, and sentiment through the record of his honeymoon trip with his late wife, Yoko. For a more in-depth understanding of his confessional, diaristic pictures, you can attend a curator-led tour.

6. Singapore Girl & the Chamber of Trials and Tribulations
Part of Singapore Girl, or Heritage Deployed, the interactive experience explores the heritage of and what it means to be a Singapore Airlines stewardess. Also, try the kebaya and see if your body type is ‘ideal’. And while you’re there, catch theatre variety show, She’s A Great Way To Fly.

7. Gender Hierarchy
Gender Hierarchy brings together artists, researchers, curators, writers, and DJs to discuss and celebrate the topics of sexuality, Girl culture, inequality, and feminism in Asian cities. There will be talks, panel discussions, exhibitions, a street art mural, and an after party.

8. Making Poetry: A Masterclass with Judith Beveridge
For those who love poetry, hone your writing skills and gain a fuller understanding of your craft with this workshop by established poet Judith Beveridge. You’ll workshop a poem and discuss selected works.

10. A Thousand Miles Away

11. Women in Film 2018: Collective Power

12. Rocky Horror Picture Show

15. Love & Pride Film Festival

16. Puma Train #24Seven

20. Great Eastern Women’s Run 2018
This year’s run has a new route which starts at Nicoll Highway and ends at the National Stadium. Tickets are almost sold out but the 5km fun run, 10km individual open, and 21.1km individual closed categories have a few slots left.
