18% Of Women Surveyed Think That Singaporean Men Are Romantic, 33% Strongly Disagree

Are Singaporean Men Romantic?

Everyone has their own set of definitions when it comes to romance, often shaped by the depictions in K-dramas and romantic gestures as seen on social media. We expect our other half to surprise us with gifts from time to time, and always go the extra mile for us.

This may explain why, in a survey conducted by Answers.sg, only 10% of surveyed women strongly believed that Singaporean men are romantic.

A total of 1,211 Singaporean women participated in the survey, and they were asked if they think Singaporean men are romantic. 10% of respondents strongly agreed that Singaporean men are romantic, while 8% agreed with the statement.

“What you find romantic may not be the same as others,” one Singaporean female shared.

She explained that rather than expecting grand gestures from your partner, we should appreciate the small things that they do for us, such as sending you home even though he lives an hour away. Those actions are also considered romantic.

On the other hand, 26% of respondents disagreed, and 33% strongly disagreed, stating that they don’t find them romantic.

When asked about the reason, one Singaporean female believes that most men in Singapore are more logical than emotional in relationships. This in turn causes them to view relationships in a strategic manner, only doing things that make sense to them.

“Some men are unwilling to get flowers for their other half just because they find flowers a waste of money,” she shared.

Another respondent also noted that Singaporean men rarely go out of their way to be romantic or put in the effort to do so.

Interestingly, 23% of the respondents appeared to be undecided as they chose “neutral” as their answer.

Some believe that they shouldn’t give an unbiased answer since they haven’t had the chance to date Singaporean men, and others think that some Singaporean men become romantic only after their partners tell them what they prefer and enjoy. Instead, they need a lil’ nudge to understand what their partners find romantic.

That being said, it seems that not all hope is lost when it comes to finding a romantic Singaporean man.

This Survey Shows That The Idea Of Romance Is Subjective

Society plays a big role in shaping what people find romantic or not. This survey shows that while many Singaporeans don’t agree that Singaporean men are romantic, we should take these findings with a pinch of salt since the notion of romance is subjective.
