Balenciaga just released its Resort 2021 collection. As usual, the luxury powerhouse served up chic clothes and accessories for hypebeasts and high-fashion fans alike. What caught our eyes immediately, however, were a Balenciaga hoodie and top with a design that will remind most Singaporeans of a certain sign that can be found across the island.
The rest of the world may see the new Balenciaga Languages hoodie—with 7 lines of text spelling “Balenciaga” in different languages—and applaud the brand for its inclusivity.
For residents of the Little Red Dot, however, the print bears more than a passing resemblance to Singapore’s “Danger – Keep Out!” sign.
The “Danger – Keep Out!” sign is a sizable poster usually made of metal. It is put up around construction sites to warn passers-by to stay away for their own safety.
Having texts of different languages in separate lines is what makes the hoodie look like the “Danger – Keep Out!” sign. But if you notice that both the sign and hoodie have their first 2 lines in English then Mandarin, you’ll raise your eyebrows at the coincidence.

This isn’t the first time Balenciaga pulled an art-imitates-life scheme. Back in 2017, the Balenciaga blanket bag was the talk of the town. Many Asian netizens snapped pics of their grandma’s blanket bag to compare it to the brand’s luxury tote.
Sport the neon green, orange or white Balenciaga Languages hoodies and top and be extra safe while crossing the roads at night. The hoodies are set to be released as part of the Resort 2021 lineup. So if you’re looking to get in on the iconic look, you’ll have to wait till the end of this year.
