L-R: At the start of the day, At the end of the day

Annika, who reviewed this product, said that the product had a barely-there finish despite the presence of powders. “As this setting spray has both a powder and liquid layer, I could see the powder on my skin after spraying. The mist was lightweight and very fine, so I couldn’t feel it on my face, and there were no powdery white streaks left behind. There was also a distinct soapy or herbal scent, but it went away after a while.”

On how it lasted, she said, “My face looked airbrushed and it remained quite matte throughout the day. My makeup didn’t transfer, even when I blotted with a tissue, but it did separate slightly, especially on the bridge of my nose where my glasses sit. While my makeup looked great from a distance and in pictures, I noticed some cracking, even though I followed my usual makeup routine. I was out for about 15 hours, and my makeup did not wear off. I was a little oily at the end of the day but that didn’t bother me much.”

As for whether she’d repurchase the Skintific setting spray, Annika said she would, but only use it for occasions where she needed her makeup to look flawless in pictures. While it made her makeup appear great from a distance, she found that it didn’t hold up as well up close.

This setting spray is waterproof and promises long-lasting hold all day.

L-R: At the start of the day, At the end of the day

Annika, who tested the spray, shared that the setting spray left a film on her face after application. It also made her skin feel tight, but that feeling gradually went away. After that, it felt comfortable on the skin.

“The mist is very fine so it dispensed evenly on my face. The setting spray has 2 layers, 1 being the moisturiser, so you need to shake it well to mix the layers before using it.”

It also helped her makeup last longer than usual: “By lunchtime, I would usually be very oily and need to touch up. However, after using this setting spray, my makeup didn’t look oily, instead, it had a healthy glow, even though it was a super warm and sunny day. My skin still looked like skin, and my base looked really good. When I blotted with tissue, only the oil from my nose transferred onto it, but my base didn’t move, which was pretty impressive!”

She also noticed that her makeup stayed intact throughout the day: “My concealer didn’t separate around my nose area like it usually does, and my makeup didn’t melt off throughout the day. By the end of the day, I was mostly oily in my T-zone, especially my nose. My nose gets very oily, I didn’t really expect a product to magically fix that, so it wasn’t a big issue for me.

While it wasn’t as hydrating as claimed, I would definitely repurchase it because it’s affordable and it helped my makeup stay in place all day!”

The So Natural All Day Tight Make Up Setting Fixx Spray ($23.20) is South Korea’s No. 1 setting spray. It has made waves on TikTok for its long-lasting ability to keep makeup fresh and vibrant all day. Infused with lemon, tea tree, and centella asiatica extract, the brand claims that these ingredients help hydrate and nourish the skin throughout the day while still providing a finish that is neither too dewy nor too matte.

L-R: At the start of the day, At the end of the day

I have combination skin, with my T-zone getting oily while my cheeks tend to be on the drier side. Right off the bat, I loved how fine the mist from the setting spray was. It dried down quickly and felt comfortable on my skin, with no tight or drying sensation—even on my cheeks.

As someone who prefers a dewy base to a matte one, I appreciated how this setting spray gave my complexion a slight sheen without appearing greasy.

Aside from reapplying my lippies, I usually don’t bother with touching up my makeup throughout the day. I tend to get oily in my T-zone, but I noticed that it was less oily than usual with this setting spray, even after battling the afternoon heat to buy lunch. However, if you have oily skin, you may still need to touch up with powder throughout the day, as the sheen this setting spray provides may start to look a bit greasy as time goes on.

I attended a barre class after work and perspired quite a bit, so I was surprised that my base still looked relatively fresh at the end of the day. My dark circles and blemishes on my chin were starting to peek through, but that’s a normal occurrence for me so I wasn’t too bothered by it. Other than that, my base stayed intact, and I was impressed that my blush didn’t wear off, as it usually does.

I’m a fan of how long the setting spray “holds” my makeup, and how comfortably it wears on the skin, but I probably wouldn’t repurchase it because of its strong fragrance and alcohol content. I have sensitive, acne-prone skin and I feel like using it long-term could cause irritation.”

4. Abduct Cosmetic Glow Lustre Enhancing Setting Spray, 100ml ($32)

Best setting spray for a dewy finish.

Source

The Glow Lustre Enchancing Setting Spray is the latest addition to the local brand Abduct Cosmetics’ setting spray collection. Formulated with micro pearlescent shimmers, the setting spray also acts as a makeup enhancer. The shimmers add a pearlescent glow to matte makeup and give dewy makeup a glass-skin finish. The setting spray promises 16-hour wear and is infused with skincare ingredients like niacinamide and rose water.

abduct cosmetics review

L-R: At the start of the day, At the end of the day

Gladys, the tester for this product, shared that she loved how the brand incorporated micro pearlescent shimmer in the spray because it gave her makeup more shine. “I personally prefer a dewy finish, so this is the perfect setting spray for me!”

As she has sensitive skin, Gladys was glad that the product did not cause her skin any irritation. “Even though I do have sensitive skin, I didn’t react negatively to this—thank god! In fact, the niacinamide, rose water, and aloe kept my skin feeling hydrated.”

Commenting on the longevity of her makeup after using the setting spray, she said that, “My base usually lasts quite long, except around the T-zone, since that’s the area I tend to touch most. I wouldn’t say it’s entirely transfer-proof because I do see it being transferred onto tissue when I blot my T-zone.

Even after a half-day shoot, my T-zone did get oily but my makeup remained dewy, and the pearlescent finish was still there. My blush stayed on, and my eyeliner didn’t smudge. I’d say this setting spray holds up pretty well despite our humid weather. Additionally, I appreciate that the spray nozzle is designed to spray out fine mist. Some brands have such a thick nozzle that the setting spray ends up coming out in droplets!”

She would 100% repurchase this because it’s skincare-infused and one bottle would probably last her about 2 months, making it worth the price.

Established by American celebrity Kylie Jenner, Kylie Cosmetics is well-known for their matte lip kits. However, the brand also offers a Matte Finish Setting Spray ($40) that promises mattifying, all-day wear. Formulated with centella asiatica and green tea, this formula claims to be non-drying and suitable for both oily and dry skin types.

L-R: At the start of the day, At the end of the day

Joan, who reviewed this product, shared that the atomiser worked well and the setting spray was very fine. However, the formula made her sensitive skin itch quite badly.

Throughout the day, she noticed that her face became very oily and her makeup started to wear off: “I have combination skin and my T-zone tends to get oily. I blotted my face just 3 hours after doing my makeup and a significant amount of my base makeup came off, even though I had been indoors the whole time.”

“I went for a shoot in the afternoon and as it had just stopped raining, the weather was very humid. My makeup felt very sticky outdoors and my T-zone became quite oily. While my eyeshadow stayed intact, my eyeliner smudged after shooting for a whole evening.”

Joan said no to repurchasing this setting spray. “It feels like you’d be paying more for the brand than the actual effectiveness of the product. Despite promising an all-day matte finish, my makeup became oily pretty quickly.”

The crowd-favourite Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray ($50) promises up to 16 hours of wear and is designed to perform well in hot and humid climates. It also claims to enhance the intensity of your makeup and keep your beat looking fresh all day by lowering the base temperature of your skin.

Joan also tested this setting spray and she was impressed by how quickly the mist dried down. The product also felt very lightweight and breathable on her skin, with no residue. Additionally, despite having sensitive skin, she didn’t experience any irritation: “It did smell a little strange, but that’s subjective. I have pretty sensitive skin and my skin didn’t react negatively to this spray.”

In terms of longevity, Joan found the spray effective at keeping her makeup in place: “It kept my makeup matte for about 70% of my day, and I only got a little oily at my T-zone. I blotted my face twice throughout the day, and both times, nothing transferred onto the tissue, which was really impressive! I was also able to get rid of most of the shine in my T-zone with just a quick blot. By the end of the day, my eyeliner did smudge a little, but it always does so it might be a me problem.”

Other than that, she was pleased with how smooth and matte her skin felt at the end of the day, and she thought that the product was worth the $50 price tag. She would definitely repurchase the product.

7. One/Size On Til Dawn Setting Spray, 143ml ($53)

Best setting spray that helps minimise pores.

setting sprays - one/size

Formulated by renowned makeup artist Patrick Starr, the One/Size On Til Dawn Setting Spray ($53) has gained a cult following because of its ability to lock in makeup for up to 16 hours. The brand claims that the setting spray provides a blurred, matte finish and is both waterproof and transfer-proof. The setting spray also features texture-solving ingredients to absorb oil and help tighten pores.

L-R: At the start of the day, At the end of the day

Yrika, who reviewed this product, appreciated that it was an aerosol setting spray so it did not make my face feel wet or sticky after application: “It felt like nothing at all when I sprayed it, and it didn’t feel as if there was an added layer on my skin. Throughout the day, I didn’t experience any discomfort at all.”

As someone with an oily skin type, she was surprised that her skin was not oily at all after being outdoors: “One thing that surprised me was, after walking in the sun for about 30 minutes, I was not oily at all. This was about 2 to 3 hours after I did my makeup. Usually after walking outdoors, my face becomes oily immediately.”

By midday, her face was oily, but not as much as usual. However, by the end of the day, she felt that her face had become very oily and the product didn’t seem to lock in her makeup for the full 16 hours as advertised: “I went for a shoot in the evening and stayed out till about 11pm, mostly in outdoor settings. Even though I only had concealer, eyeliner, and brow products on, my base was intact. However, my eyeliner and brow product did smudge a little. By 11pm, my face was very oily, so I don’t think it lasted the 16 hours as promised.”

She is on the fence about whether or not she would repurchase this: “It isn’t really the most value-for-money and the price does not align with its performance. If I do repurchase it, I think that touching up with powder and blotting throughout the day would help with oil control.”

8. Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray, 100ml ($59)

Famous setting spray suitable for dry skin.

The Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray ($59) is another favourite among many beauty gurus. This lightweight, waterproof setting spray promises to keep makeup in place for up to 16 hours without melting, fading, or creasing.  The brand also claims that it hydrates the skin and provides a natural finish, maintaining a “just applied” look throughout the day.

charlotte tilbury review

L-R: At the start of the day, At the end of the day

The setting spray dried down quickly upon application and felt very comfortable on the skin. Even though it was a spray mist instead of an aerosol, I didn’t feel like my face was too wet after spritzing. In fact, the product settled into the skin quite nicely. There was a slight fragrance so it might not be ideal for those with super sensitive skin.

I have combination skin and usually only get super oily in my T-zone while my cheeks are on the drier side. However, after using this setting spray, I felt that my face became extremely oily, even on the cheeks, which was not what I usually experience. That was a weird feeling for me and I found myself needing to blot my face with a tissue. That said, the product felt hydrating on my skin, so I think it would likely work better for those with drier skin types.

At the end of the day, I was quite surprised that my undereye concealer was relatively intact and my blush didn’t fade either. Unfortunately, I did look abnormally oily and the makeup did not look as fresh as the setting spray had promised.

This is the most expensive setting spray on the list, but I don’t think it’s worth the price. The brand promises a pore-blurring and airbrush effect but I didn’t see it on my skin after 1 or 2 hours after application. I think there are probably cheaper alternatives that will be more suitable for my skin type.
