You may be familiar with IKEA’s iconic blue FRAKTA bag and even the hippie IKEA bucket hat. This time, the Swedish furniture brand has taken things up a notch to create limited-edition rainbow-coloured bags for Pride 2020.
IKEA’s latest release is right in time for Pride month in June, as a way to show its support for the LGBTQ+ community. The brand is also going further than just selling rainbow-coloured merch. It has pledged to donate US$25,000 (~S$34,861.25) to New York City‘s Ali Forney Center and the Los Angeles LGBT Center to help out the homeless LGBTQ+ community. Besides that, IKEA will also donate 30% of the sales from the rainbow bags to the same organisations, capped at US$50,000 (~S$69,705), so each purchase will make a difference.
First of 2 bags is the STORSTOMMA lunch bag. It measures 27.3cm x 17.8cm x 27.3 cm, so it’s big enough to store your reusable food containers for your next Phase 2 outing.
The lunch bag retails at US$0.99 (~S$1.38) and is designed to look like Gilbert Baker’s LGBTQ pride flag design, with rainbow-coloured horizontal stripes going across the body of the bag.

IKEA also has a larger carrier to cater to your weekly grocery runs. The STORSTOMMA shopping bag measures 55.2cm x 34.9cm x 36.8cm. It comes with double straps so you can switch between a shorter or longer handle for maximum comfort. The bag is priced at US$2.99 (~S$4.17).
The IKEA Pride 2020 rainbow bags are limited edition. For now, they are only available for purchase on the IKEA US website. If you’re desperate to get your hands on the bags, you can check out Amazon or eBay for options. Hopefully, they will make their way to Singapore soon since IKEA Singapore has officially reopened its doors from 19 June 2020.
