For many Singaporeans, secondary school is one of the most memorable periods of our lives. Staying back after school to play block catching and going for supplementary classes with our BFFs are just a few highlights that some of us can recollect fondly.
Then there are those for whom the secondary school years are when they fell in love. As much as our Asian parents nag at us, “No relationships until you graduate from university!”, sometimes, we just can’t help when romance blossoms. On occasion, these high school sweethearts are each other’s happily ever after too.
One such romance that has stood the test of time is the story of Chanel and her fiancé, who met in Punggol Secondary School 10 years ago. To pay tribute to the place that holds so many memories for both of them, the couple decided to hold their pre-wedding shoot at the school.
Chanel captioned her TikTok video, where she shared behind-the-scenes footage of the wedding shoot, “POV: you’re finally marrying your first love and your wedding shots were taken in your school”.
Instead of the typical tux and gown, the couple donned their secondary school uniform, even making use of school desks as props. They shot in a number of places that were significant to them, such as the school hall, canteen and classroom.
The couple nailed the concept down to the smallest details — the uniforms included their name tags and school ties, and Chanel’s fiancé even carried books to bring home the secondary school boy look.
NGL, these pictures look as if they came straight out of a coming-of-age Taiwanese romance drama, and we’re here for it.
One shot featured the couple sitting together at the school piano. Chanel shared that when they were in Secondary 4, her fiancé played the song “Happy Birthday” on this very same piano on her special day.
The couple also took formal pictures in their gown and suit, along with a small throwback Polaroid that they had taken together during their secondary school days, which they held between their hands.
Chanel also shared their love story in a separate TikTok video, explaining that the two of them had met after their teacher seated them side by side in class. Who would’ve thought that this small act would result in them falling in love and staying together for over 10 years? Perhaps their teacher deserves a little credit for playing matchmaker too.’
It’s not every day that one can flex their long term relationship with their secondary school sweetheart, but Chanel and her fiancé managed to make it the theme of their pre-wedding shoot. Head over to her TikTok account to find out more about their love story.
More couples in Singapore have also been holding their wedding photoshoots at unique locations such as FairPrice and Ya Kun, serving as fun inspirations for couples who are planning their future shoots.
