Earlier in February, Haidilao China teased fans with a poster featuring five silhouettes. Since the poster was reminiscent of those used by K-pop idols before releasing a new album, Haidilao enthusiasts couldn’t help but look forward to the debut of a new boy band.

In addition to the teaser “Coming Soon”, the poster highlighted that the boy band would debut with Ke Mu Si, Haidilao’s version of the Ke Mu San dance challenge on TikTok, on the first day of Chinese New Year.

Not long after, Haidilao released another poster featuring their boy band, unveiling all five members and further hyping up netizens’ interest in them. They appeared professionally styled, wearing matching black and red outfits akin to those of an actual boy band.

Ever since their music video dropped on 10 February 2024, netizens have been flooding Haidilao’s Xiao Hong Shu page with positive comments. Some shared that they were impressed by how Haidilao gave them equal screen time, while others pointed out that Haidilao really went the extra mile to market their brand.

Nonetheless, netizens were pleased with the close-up shots of the members in the music video that highlighted their handsome facial features. This makes us wonder if Haidilao actually held auditions among their staff to cast the perfect members.

Of course, the music video also featured all members dancing to Ke Mu Si, suggesting that they practised hard to be synchronised ‒ fingers crossed that they got paid for overtime. At the end of the 1.5-minute video, the boys gathered and wished viewers a prosperous new year.

Marketing technique or not, Haidilao’s boy band definitely gained the attention of many people, including Singaporeans. Some even asked if the boy band would have any world tours and make stops in Singapore.

While it is uncertain if Haidilao will act as their “agency”, it doesn’t hurt to hope that the members will continue to promote as a group with more music releases.
