The best part is you no longer need a visa if you’re visiting China for up to 15 days – time to get that group chat going.
Glamping experience
Popular hot pot chain Haidilao has expanded its dining experience by opening a new restaurant in a campsite in Shanghai’s Songjiang District at the start of the autumn season this year. Since then, we’ve been able to see snippets of the glamping site on TikTok and Xiaohongshu.
An important thing to note is this experience is currently only available through a reservation system that might be a challenge if you don’t read Mandarin. I mean, glamping and hot pot dining sounds like such a unique bonding experience, especially when the weather dips and it gets colder. Just imagine – you’re surrounded by the sounds of nature, you have the option of watching a movie under the stars, and there’s a steaming hot pot to keep your stomach happy.
On top of having all the amenities and facilities already set up for you, the campsite also takes care of all the food prep. Guests don’t need to bring anything food-related as everything would be pre-ordered. And if you do need anything extra, there are food trucks in the vicinity to keep you happy till hot pot time.
To make it extra special, camp services also include the organisation of large group activities like afternoon tea, fishing, and even outdoor karaoke. For those who enjoy a bit of harmless gambling, you can borrow mahjong tiles to flex your skills.
Consistent expansion
Capitalising on their now-global popularity, Haidilao’s creative appeal continues to impress us by adding more experiences to attract new consumers. In fact, they tested this idea out in 2022 by hosting a two-day weekend camping package for families in Beijing, which was such a success that in the same year, they started an outdoor barbecue service by providing everything from ingredients to grills, luxury tents, and all kinds of camping tools.

Since glamping has been on the rise around the globe, this was quite a genius move on Haidilao’s part. However, further info for this experience is quite scarce and your best bet to secure a booking is to do it through Xiaohongshu during your next trip to China.
Hopefully with more inquiries from us kaypoh-ing from outside China, they’ll make it accessible to Singapore as well.
