Tips For Rejecting Pushy Staff

Imagine this: you head down to the beauty salon for a relaxing self-care day but your attending beautician starts to pull the “Would you like to try XXXX? It’s really good for you.” tactic. While rejecting their offers may come easy for some, the rest of us might have a hard time saying no.

Lemon8 user, Joyce, previously signed beauty packages that cost up to $1,000 as an introvert. She shares her tips and tricks on how to avoid falling into the trap of aggressive hard-selling tactics so you won’t succumb to the same fate.

The tips

1. Start by saying no

Let’s admit it, we sometimes cave into peer pressure especially when the salesperson is super persistent. But there comes a time to put your foot down.

Joyce advises that while the staff are just doing their job, it’s important to kindly turn down their offers and continue on with the service you selected from the start.

2. Do your research

Other than doing research for work or school, your self-care days deserve a bit of background checks especially if you haven’t patronised the beauty salon before.

While a quick search of the beauty salon’s review might suffice, it might not be enough to reflect its true nature. This Lemon8 user had a bad experience despite researching the beauty salon beforehand although the place has glowing 5-star reviews ━ so do read their latest and lowest reviews for a more unbiased view.

3. Don’t engage in conversation

Some staff can be very friendly and talking to them can be enjoyable. However, the conversation might turn into a quick hard-selling tactic if you’re not careful. I have fallen victim to this, which is totally not a slay, and I had to fork out money for an additional hair service as a result.

It does pay to be friendly but it’s okay to not participate in conversation especially if you want to siam their hard selling tactics.

4. Cooling-off period

If all else fails, the salesperson might say their promo lasts until, very conveniently, on the same day. The offer only stands before you leave the salon, so do stand firm on your decision.

But if you do find yourself agreeing to pay for a “discounted” package, make sure to ask for a cooling off period in case so you will have the choice of canceling in the coming days.
