There’s no such thing as a fixed timeline for love — some of us get caught up in terrible situationships, whereas others might marry after just dating for seven months. After all, dating and breaking up are natural processes to eventually finding The One.
In a survey with 474 married participants conducted by Answers.sg, 19% of Singaporeans revealed that they had eight or more partners before getting married. Read on to find out more about Singaporeans’ dating history before going into marriage.
To some, love is a game of trial and error — how would you know if you’ve found the perfect one without comparing them to your other experiences with love?
5% of participants had 4 partners before marriage, 2% had 5 partners, 1% had 6 partners and a whopping 19% had 8 or more partners.
This goes to show that Singaporeans aren’t just kan chiong to get good results at school or work, but also ensuring that they’ve experienced all the fish in the sea before tying the knot.
15% of the surveyed had 1 other partner, 9% had 2 and 8% had 3. These results suggest that it’s okay even if your first relationship failed you, as your next might just be much better than your ex. Not many go through the hassle of multiple relationships before settling down.
Surprisingly, the bulk of the results showed that most Singaporeans married their first partner — 40% of participants voted for this option.
It seems like the majority of Singaporeans have experienced love at first sight — a sweet takeaway despite our busy and bustling life in the Little Red Dot.
These poll results have shown that not everyone experiences that romantic Disney fairytale ending that we dream of. Whether it may take more than 8 tries to find your true love or your first partner was simply your fated lover, there is no right or wrong route.
