Creative Wedding Proposals In Singapore

Witnessing a wedding proposal is one of the most beautiful things in life. Whether it is grand or private, either one would make you squeal, or even bring you to tears. While some might think that Singapore is a small city where proposals are simply done at dinner dates, there are actually many other ways to pull off an unforgettable wedding proposal.

If you’re planning to go on one knee anything soon, perhaps these 10 proposals might provide you with some inspiration to impress bae.

1. Dancing to BTS and presenting a McNugget bouquet (2021)

If your girl is an ARMY, the way to her heart would probably be coming up with a proposal related to BTS. Groom-to-be Titus Lim thought of an ingenious way to do so by filming him dancing to BTS’s Dynamite in several locations in Singapore, before compiling them into a video.

On top of his intricate planning, he caused us to go “aww” when he sought permission from the bride-to-be’s father in Hokkien ‒ he learned the dialect just to communicate with his future father-in-law. As a cherry on top, he even prepared a McNugget bouquet with dipping sauce to bring the proposal to the next level.

2. Gardens By The Bay proposal with 150 drones (2022)

When you’re so in love, there are times you want to share with the entire world just how much you love your partner. If you’re someone who enjoys a grand romantic gesture, check out this drone proposal that recently happened at Gardens By The Bay. Not only did the groom-to-be plan for a romantic set-up on one of the Supertrees, but he even prepared a gorgeous flower bouquet.

Involving 150 drones, the proposal took at least two months of planning and preparation, suggesting that a lot of effort went into perfecting the moment. From forming outlines of a ring to the Singapore skyline, the drones even spelt the words “I Love U”. TBH, who could say no to such a proposal?

3. Crazy Rich Asians-inspired mahjong proposal (2021)

Jeraldine initially thought that she was helping out a friend’s project which needed a mahjong scene, inspired by the one seen in Crazy Rich Asians. It turned out it was a proposal that her boyfriend Alfred had tediously planned ‒ he needed the mahjong game to flow in a way such that Jeraldine would discard a white “honour” tile.

Luckily, Alfred’s effort paid off when Jeraldine eventually discarded the tile, which he later took. He then revealed his tiles which read “Will you marry me?”, having used the white “honour” tile as the alphabet O in the question. Surprised by the turn of events, Jeraldine could not help but be impressed by Alfred’s creative proposal.

4. Universal Studio Singapore carebear proposal (2017)

Universal Studio Singapore is more than just a place to take rides and snap photos with adorable characters, as for Andrew and Anna, it was a life-changing location. What started off originally as a birthday celebration became a full-blown wedding proposal.

After participating in a flash mob, Andrew began his proposal by holding up signboards, reminding us of the movie Love Actually. Their friends and families also appeared with heart-shaped balloons, which they gave Anna one by one.

During the subtle distraction, Andrew quickly put on a Carebear costume alongside the dancers, who also performed another mass dance. Not only was the Carebear reference a sweet hint that Andrew would care for and love Anna for the rest of their lives, but it also gave the entire proposal a romantic touch.

5. Romantic Rilakkuma proposal (2021)

You don’t have to rule out the creative factor when doing a simple proposal, as the one for Eric and Phoebe was romantic AF. Phoebe was tricked into thinking that she and Eric were having a casual dinner, before she was surprised by the appearance of her friends. They prepared a white dress for Phoebe to change into, before clipping on a wedding veil clip onto her hair.

If you thought that was all the surprise Eric had planned, his entrance with him wearing a Rilakkuma costume would throw you off even more. Plus, he was even holding a bouquet of flowers which made the moment all the more romantic.

A+ for effort to Eric for wearing that thick Rilakkuma costume in Singapore’s sweltering weather.

Imagine finding out that an unsuspecting street magic show was actually meant for your wedding proposal. This was what happened to Eliora when she was at Esplanade with Ivan, who had previously sought Jeremy’s magic assistance.

Ivan planned out the wedding proposal such that Eliora thought that they were approached by a street magician, who was looking for passersby to help out with his YouTube video. Little did she know that after several magic tricks, Jeremy would make her engagement ring appear out of nowhere. Ivan then took the ring, and went down on one knee.

7. Motorbike proposal (2020)

The pandemic caused many important milestones in life like weddings to get postponed, and unfortunately, it was also the case for Raihana and Hasan. Instead of remembering it as the day they almost got married, Hasan wanted to give Raihana a better memory of that day by proposing to her while on the move, literally.

Surprising the clueless Raihana, Hasan managed to get help from three other biker friends, who wore T-shirts that read “Marry me?” printed across their back. Each friend was riding on a motorbike, and they lined up so that Raihana could see the message. She shed tears of joy after realising what was going on, and of course, she said “yes” once again.

8. 100-dancer flash mob proposal (2019)

Large-scale proposals might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but Zheng Xiang did such a wonderful job that you just have to give him credit.

The proposal began with Zheng Xiang dancing alone in front of Jovina, before he was joined by several other dancers. Later on, Jovina was surprised by a 100-dancer flash mob pulled off by her friends and loved ones. One could only imagine the amount of planning and effort Zheng Xiang put in in order to call the proposal a success.

With the relaxed regulations, perhaps we would see similar large-scale proposals in the near future.

9. 40,000 feet above ground proposal (2016)

After receiving an unromantic proposal from Benjamin, who sent the classic “Want to buy an HDB?” on WhatsApp, Janessa didn’t expect him to pull off yet another proposal. This time, it was definitely romantic and memorable, considering how it happened 40,000 feet above ground.

Benjamin popped the question when they were on the plane to Perth by going on one knee, and shared his sincere feelings with Vanessa. Alongside the help of the air stewardesses, who appeared with the engagement rings and signboards, Vanessa couldn’t help but say “yes”.

10. Marina Bay Sands sampan ride proposal (2022)

The best wedding proposals always have a surprise element, and if you’re a hopeless romantic like me, the proposal of Daniel and Brasel would probably make you squeal in excitement.

The couple was enjoying a sampan ride at Marina Bay Sands before Daniel executed his plans of proposing to Brasel. Of course, Daniel wasn’t alone in the plan, as his friends also helped out by holding up signs that read “Will you marry me?” on a bridge that they were going to pass by.

The beautiful moment included Daniel sharing his feelings to Brasel, before he pulled out a ring and asked the question. Onlookers also celebrated the occasion, including the sampan uncle who was elatedly clapping for the lovebirds.
