Prata Earrings
It goes without saying that, as a country, Singaporeans live to eat. While having breakfast, we’re thinking about what’s for lunch, tea then supper. To celebrate National Day, homegrown brand Studio MU / YU has launched a limited-edition jewellery collection, Masak-Masak. It features popular local fare in the form of earrings, including chwee kueh, prata and kaya toast earrings.
Studio MU / YU uses discarded wood pieces for its handcrafted creations, so no 2 pieces are the same. The Masak-Masak collection consists of 4 sets: Breakfast, High Tea, Supper and Potong.
Breakfast set
Whether you prefer your bread-with-kaya in the form of toast or steamed bread, Studio MU / YU’s Breakfast set has you sorted. The full set consists of egg, kaya toast, steamed kaya bread and kopi-o.
The attention to detail is off the charts. Check out the grill marks on the kaya toast earrings from the front. From the side, a slab of butter and kaya ooze out between 2 slices of bread. It’s enough to make passers-by hungry.

High Tea set
For those who like variety, the High Tea Set has 3 different snacks paired with a cup of teh. There’s pandan cake, kueh salat and chwee kueh, so you can opt for sweet options one day, and savoury the next.
The earrings are made out of up-cycled wood and resin. Each piece is then painstakingly hand-painted using acrylic paint.
Supper set
Supper lovers will be stoked to see their favourite late-night snack being represented. Plain prata and egg prata are served with curry, and washed down with a Milo dinosaur.
The wooden grains, as well as the light and dark rings, of each mini wood piece really shine through in the prata earrings in particular.
Potong set
The last set is a shout out to an old-school favourite, Potong ice cream. There are 4 flavours available: red bean, yam, durian and coconut.

You can purchase the full set for $65 or get the individual earrings at $18 each on Studio MU / YU’s website.
